With so much upheaval in the world, on which I have no authority to comment, I wanted this month to talk about what we try to do as a business to make our corner of the world a better place.
This month: Doing the right thing
‘Treat others as you’d want to be treated’, that was the intention when I set up the business, and that has been the simple premise that we have stuck to. We talk to clients and individuals in the same way, and we are delighted when we find that perfect match which means that both parties will be happy for the long term, where both can achieve their objectives.
Along the way we have been running events to further support you within your legal career, our most recent online event was well attended and received. Scott Simmons gave us real insight, and confidence, in the field of business development. Discussing his 5 trends from society and business and how they are reshaping how we work and operate, these were:
1. Increased competition
2. Technology
3. A new generation of business owners
4. An agile workforce and
5. Equality
Along with his focus on how you build your own essential skills to ensure that you thrive rather than fall by the wayside, which made for an interesting Q&A. If you didn’t see the session, you can watch it here.
We joined the Good Business Charter one year ago. This is a commitment to ten elements:
1. The real living wage
2. Fair hours and contracts
3. Employee wellbeing
4. Employee representation
5. Diversity and inclusion
6. Environmental responsibility
7. Paying fair tax
8. Commitment to customers
9. Ethical sourcing and
10. Prompt payment to suppliers
This helps to keep us focused on doing the right thing and GBC is growing now with over 900 members, it’s great to see this ethical approach to business is really being recognised.
Having been absent from networking in person for so long we have also partnered with others to set up PLANS – An inclusive network to support your career and wellbeing. Our first in person session in Suffolk is with Vikki Pratley talking about how to “Advance via Awareness and Adaptability”. An interactive exploration of how we can advance ourselves; our team; our business. By building an awareness of ourselves and others we can adapt, consistently. And create high performance that’s sustainable.
We really hope that those of you local to Suffolk can make it, you can book here.
So, as we face a continued world of uncertainty and unknowns, we hope that our approach and continued commitment to ‘doing the right thing’ helps to support you in your career.
