As we hit August, I hope that you are taking time out to enjoy what summer we have! Or that you have something booked for the Autumn to give you a real break. It’s a great time to think about your future career plans.
Our upcoming online event also might help give you some inspiration to move your career forward.
This month: How to Get Unstuck
Is there something important on your mental to-do list that you keep putting off? Something that could represent a huge breakthrough for your career, if only you could get yourself to do it?
If the answer is yes, you’re not alone.
Whether it’s asking for a raise, changing jobs or going for a promotion, many of us wind up dealing with persistent avoidance when it comes to the big moves we want to make. This is especially the case for those in the legal profession—in part because the very attitudes to risk that serve you as a lawyer can be paralysing when it comes to advancing your own career.
In this talk, we’ll look at exactly what is happening in your brain when you find yourself avoiding something important, and why the default ways of approaching such moments tend to make things worse. We’ll examine some of the different ways that avoidance shows up for high-achievers depending on their ways of thinking and working. And we’ll dig into some practical tools that you can use to end avoidance in your own work and career.
Jane Elliott PhD is a coach and award-winning professor at King’s College London. She specialises in helping high-achievers get out of their own way.
We can’t wait to host this and learn more about what is happening in our brains around these big decisions.
