Come 6th April there are big changes in the way that private companies have to deal with off payroll working (IR35). Previously it was only public bodies who had the burden of defining whether any of its contractors fell within or outside the regulations. Now private companies are required to do the same. No longer will private businesses be able to rely on the contractor’s self-categorisation, as it is currently.
There is a handy checker provided by the government on the HMRC website, where you can check your employment status. As a locum, it is likely the firm’s you engage with are having to review their policies and practices.
