As a lawyer you are constantly trying to manage expectations:
• Your own
• Your boss
• The client
Trying to ‘smash it’ while not volunteering to work 24/7 on a regular basis is tricky. Saying “No” without it being ‘career limiting’ is a skill. Developing assertiveness is essential and there are tips and tools that you can use that will help.
We know this is a topic that is vital in any legal career. Asking for a pay rise, the work you want, a promotion can all be vastly improved with assertiveness training.
I spoke to Nadide Stanton (corporate lawyer, entrepreneur, and the founder of Professional Training UK Ltd) who has trained thousands of lawyers through her company that delivers training and coaching exclusively to the legal profession. Nadine said “Like all skills, assertiveness can be learnt and improved upon. We have set up an online session between Professional Training and Clara Rose Consultancy to help you, as a lawyer, to hone your assertiveness skills, no matter what stage you are at in your career”.
This session covers:
What is assertive behaviour? We explore appropriate body language, the right questions to ask and controlling our own internal dialogue.
Techniques to use include:
• Labelling
• Pattern interrupt
• Discrepancy assertion
• Broken record
• Agreeing but not agreeing
• Perceptual positions
• Deflation
This is an interactive session and limited in numbers. To get the value from the event please attend on the day as this session will not be recorded.
We are really looking forward to it, so why not come along and be empowered!
You can book now via Eventbrite, it promises to be an interesting session and having seen Nadine in action I know this will be useful to all attendees!
As always if you want to discuss your career just drop me a line, or check out our app for details of all the roles we are working on.
