How flexible is your firm?

Lots gets written of millennials who are demanding flexibility in their work place.

But is it really only millennials who want flexible working?

This month: Does your firm offer you the flexibility you need?

Firms are increasingly recognising that flexible working needs to be offered in the modern workplace. Some firms have a “shiny” new policy on it, some firms frown on it and others have been offering flexibility for so long it is simply just taken for granted!
With the option of cloud based computing, home working and remote working has never been easier.  Whilst millennials might be the first generation who are happy to ask for flexibility from day one, I don’t believe any generation has ever not desired flexibility in a role – whether it is to accommodate other responsibilities or to incorporate regular activities into a weekly routine, most people would welcome a flexible approach to working.
It is all about balancing your ideal with what is on offer.  We speak to people who are ‘allowed’ to drop to part-time as long as they continue to maintain and build on their billing figures.  Others work a few days each week from home to help alleviate an arduous commute.  Some firms raise grievance with individuals being 5 minutes late to the office not taking in to account that they work well beyond their contracted hours when required.  Other firms judge people by results and output alone, preferring to “treat people as adults”. The variations on flexibility are endless and it is all about finding a balance that is right for you.
It is evident however, that there can be all the policies and procedures in place, but the culture of a firm remains the strongest influence of all and a firm’s culture cannot be changed overnight.

We are able to maintain an overview of the market and can help you weigh up all the factors in your current role, or your next role.
