If it has been a long time since you changed roles, or if you have never changed roles then trusting in a third party to help can be daunting. However a third party means you have a source of reference that is not the intended future employer and that can be useful in so many ways. Picture your normal working day
• How much time do you have to make private phone calls?
• How keen are you to talk to your current competitors who might be the very people who can offer you the next step in your career?
• How likely is that future employer (current competitor) to tell you the details of the firm’s growth, the new role and the future plans of the firm..? Highly unlikely!
It would be impossible for you, currently working, to start a dialogue with all the local firms who might be able to fulfil your career aspirations. You may see a role advertised on a website but unless you are looking daily then you won’t know how long they have been advertising. With out speaking to the firm you don’t know if the post is at interview stage or filled already. You simply gain a snapshot of the website on that one day.
Even with the best intention, every firm forgets to update their website sometimes. Many firms don’t advertise on their websites at all as it creates too much bulk mail from unsuitable people. I myself have had lorry drivers apply for a role advertised on line, and that is why we don’t use jobs boards either.
A third party who takes the time to know what is happening in the local market can tell you so much more than a job advert online can. They can give background to the firm, the team, the role. They can make all the calls for you, ask all the tricky questions. They get paid by firms who are happy to pay for their expertise in finding people that really fit the role, meaning that the firms’ own HR department is not flooded with CVs of non-suitable candidates. Using a third party recruiter will always be free to the individual.
We have no interest in encouraging you to blindly job hop, we are trying to help you achieve your career aspirations and travel the career path of your choosing.
